Jacob "Jake" Wullschleger, 76, De Soto, Kansas, formerly of Frankfort, Kansas, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2010 after a long illness at his home in De Soto. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 28, at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. The Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. The musicians were Carol O’Neal, Marty Rosa, Dennis and Marilyn Sweet. Music included “Whispering Hope” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee”. The pallbearers were Tim Wanklyn, Wes Johnson, Dennis Sweet, Tom Vogelsberg, Chet Fincham, Jr. and Kenneth Seematter. The honorary pallbearers were Glen Fox, Earl Schwarz, Ralph Miller, Lynn Wassenberg and Kenneth Wanklyn. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery with Military Funeral Honors provided by the American Legion SMN&R Post 163. Jake was born November 12, 1934 at Frankfort, Kansas, the eldest son of Ernest R. and Gertrude (Peters) Wullschleger. He attended Frankfort schools. Jake was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator on the minesweeper U.S.S. Illusive from 1955 to 1959. On July 9, 1955, he married Charlotte Corrine Hill of Parsons, Kansas. Jake worked for the Los Angeles County Maintenance Department after his Honorable Discharge from the Navy. He returned to the Winifred area to help his father farm until 1986. He and his wife moved to Miami County near his daughter and worked for the Miami County Road Department until his retirement in 2003. In 2009 they moved to the DeSoto area. He received his 50 year pin and certificate from the Marysville American Legion. Jake enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and visiting with friends and family. Jake was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. Survivors include his wife, Corrine, of the home; children, Michelle Rogers (Tom), Kansas City, Kan., Dan Wullschleger (Carolyn), Frankfort, and Chuch Wullschleger (Stacy), Marysville; brother, Larry Wullschleger (Wanda), Prairie Village, Kan.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
