Dale E. Laflen, 82, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 8, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. The Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. Burial with Military Honors was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Dale was born on February 21, 1928 at Beloit, Kansas, the son of Boyd and Katie Holloway Laflen. On December 24, 1950 he married Marjorie Ely in Axtell, Kansas. Three months after they were married, Dale was drafted into the U.S. Army in April of 1951, and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict for 18 months. He was then discharged from the military in March of 1953. After returning home, he worked as a Foreman and Supervisor for Hall Brothers in Marysville for 47 years, and then retired to enjoy his home, hobbies, grandkids and great grandkids. Survivors include his wife Marjorie Laflen, Marysville; daughter, Martha Roesch and husband, Larry, Beattie, Kan.; two grandchildren, Emily Mueller and Chris Roesch; two great-grandchildren, Leah and Nathan; brothers and sisters, Frances Sporleder, Beloit, Kan., Mary Oviatt, Downs, Kan., Dick Laflen, Greenleaf, Kan., Kathryn Laue, Salina, Kan., Boyd Laflen, Jr., Greenleaf, Donna Kruse, Frankfort, Kan., and Vernon Laflen, Citrus Heights, Cal. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald Laflen who died in France while actively serving in World War II, and Roy Laflen; sisters, Maxine Larson, Alice Latham, Harrietta Rockwell and Alta Jean Porter. Memorials will be designated later and can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
