Chauncey J. Dowd, 68, of Frankfort, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville, Kansas. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 12, at Padden Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Terry DeGiovanni officiated. The pallbearers were James J. Dowd, Kristopher Dowd, James M. Dowd, John Dowd, Kevin Wiley and John Dowd, Jr. Chauncey was born on November 18, 1942 at Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Chauncey Ott and May Jane Craig Dowd. He graduated from Frankfort High School. Chauncey served in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966. He was a butcher for Welch's Meat Locker in Frankfort for 33 years and retired in 2005. He also delivered the Topeka paper for 15 years. Chauncey was a member of the American Legion. He was a man of God and Faith. He loved his family and enjoyed visiting with friends, family and strangers. He liked to fish, read, work on vehicles, watch old western movies and would help anyone who needed it. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Graham Dowd, Frankfort; two sons, Kristopher Dowd, Frankfort and James Dowd, Ottawa; daughter, Christina Wiley, Frankfort; two brothers, John Dowd, Holton and George Dowd, Sabetha; five sisters, Clara Jefferies, Blue Rapids, Shirley Smith, Topeka, Betty Dowd, Frankfort, Sharon Singleton, Centralia, Kathy Dowd, Frankfort, ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Josephine Beneman. Memorials will be designated later and can be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort.
