Charles Thomas "Tom" Kier, 64, of Beattie, Kansas, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, at Marysville Christian Fellowship. Pastor Rick Glowacki officiated. Music included “I Saw The Light / I’ll Fly Away” by the Marysville Christian Fellowship Music Team, “Home Where I Belong” by Pastor Rick Glowacki and “Amazing Grace”. The pallbearers were Ivan Horn, Jason Brinegar, Dan Pianalto, Dale Meinecke, Scott Drinkgern and Nicholas Pianalto. Burial was in the Life Cemetery near Beattie, Kansas. Tom was born November 3, 1946 at Concordia, Kansas, the son of Charles Edward and Marie "Teri" (Benjamin) Kier. On July 1, 2006, he married Linda Bisping. He graduated from Washington County High School, attended St. Mary of the Plains College where he played football, and then attended Regis University in Denver. Tom began practicing law after graduating from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1972. He began his practice in Washington, Kansas and was County Attorney there for a time. Tom relocated to Colorado, but returned to practice Law in Marysville with the firm of Galloway, Wiegers & Heeney. Tom practiced with the firm from 1988 through 2005 when he decided to start his own solo practice. During Tom’s time with the firm, he served on several boards, civic organizations and served several years as the Marysville City Attorney. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. He found his calling and enjoyed ministering to inmates. He also taught Hunter Education courses and coached youth football. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his wife, Linda; mother, Marie "Teri" Kier, Washington, Kan,; five sons, Charles Kier, Durango, Colo., Grant Kier, Missoula, Mont., Jonathon Smithkier and Gregory Smithkier, both of Louisville, Kentucky, Matthew Lehi Schott, Kansas City, Kan.; three daughters, Holly Kier, Manhattan, Kan., Amy Renee' Wassenberg and Julie Mae Grauer, both of Marysville; five siblings, Mary Catherine Becker, Hyannis, Neb., Margaret Stratton, Fort Worth, Tex., James Kier, Washington, Kan., John Kier, Newton, Kan., and Nancy Beeman, Topeka, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Emma Kier, Fiona Kier and Sydney Grauer.
