Darrell E. Leonard, of Marysville, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Regional Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitation was on Sunday, January 30 from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary, where the family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 31 at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville with Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiating. Carol O’Neal played the organ and the vocalists were Julie Haggard and Reed Wilson. The music included “Daddy’s Hands”, “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. The pallbearers were Doug Grauer, Vince Pacha, Jason Dabney, Dale Founds, Dan Dunaway, Dusty Leonard, Justin Rombeck and Dallas Leonard. The honorary pallbearers were Jaci Dunaway, Bill Phillipi, Jacey Rombeck, Eldon Colburn, Macy Dunaway, Kacey Dunaway, Emily Dunaway, Jessica Rombeck, Maggie Leonard, Harold Roudybush and Bill Schwindamann. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Marysville American Legion. Darrell was born on May 31, 1928 in Marysville. His parents were Sylvis and Katherine (Zentz) Wise. In 1946 he graduated from Marysville High School and served in the U.S. Army from December 8, 1950 until September 19, 1956. He fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class. Darrell spent his life in the Marysville community, where he was very active through his involvement in different organizations. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church and American Legion Post 163. He owned and operated Marysville Plumbing and Heating for 33 years. He loved working on race cars and over the past 15 years had become interested in Texas Longhorn cattle. Darrell liked watching NASCAR and also watching Brice, Bruce and Dusty race cars. He attended his children and grandchildren’s school and sporting events. Followed KSU, KU, KC Chiefs and KC Royals games on television and attended Longhorn cattle sales. On May 26, 1955 he married Audrey Martin. They had three children, Bruce, Brice and Becky. Audrey preceded him in death on February 8, 2003. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-laws, Dale Founds and Leonard Mullen. Survivors include two sons, Bruce Leonard (Theresa), Marysville, Brice Leonard, Washington; one daughter, Becky Rombeck (Jim), Home; sister-in-law, Eileen Mullen, Beatrice, Neb.; grandchildren, Jaci Dunaway, Dusty Leonard, Dallas Leonard, Maggie Leonard, Justin Rombeck, Jessica Rombeck and Jacey Rombeck; and great-granddaughters, Emily, Kacey and Macy.
