Frances D. Schaefer, 89, of Marysville, Kan., passed away Monday, March 28, 2011 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 2, at Immanuel Lutheran Church northeast of Bremen. The Rev. Jack Kirk officiated. The congregation sang "Rock Of Ages" and the church choir sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art". Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Brian Schaefer, Matthew Schaefer, Scott Schaefer and Wyatt Hoagland; and nephews, Ben Hildebrandt and David McCall. Frances Dorothea Louise Hildebrandt was born April 4, 1921, to Ben and Sophia (Nieman) Hildebrandt at Marysville. On May 15, 1921 she was baptized by Rev. Slupianek at the Immanuel Evangelical Church in Herkimer. On April 14, 1935 she was confirmed by Rev. D. Moritz at the Evangelical Church in Marysville. In May of 1935 she graduated from Deer Creek Grade School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1938. On June 27, 1943 she was united in marriage to Irvin "Butch" Schaefer at the Evangelical Church in Marysville by Rev. Edward Bowers. They were the parents of three sons, Richard, John, and Kenneth; and one daughter, Kathryn. Frances was a homemaker and her hobbies included making quilts and crafts for her family. She was a member of the "Do Good Club" for many years. Preceding her in death were husband, Irvin "Butch", on May 5, 1999; son, John, on August 14, 2006; parents; and two brothers, Clarence and Adolph Hildebrandt. Survivors include two sons, Richard (Joann) Schaefer, Sioux City, Iowa, and Kenneth (Susan) Schaefer, Springfield, Neb.; daughter, Kathryn (Ron) Hoagland, Juniata, Neb.; daughter-in-law, Joann Schaefer, Wayne, Neb.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Hildebrandt, Marysville; sister, Dorothy Claeys, Marysville; and several nephews and nieces. Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery amd can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.
