Robert J. Rohlfs, 87 of Hanover, Kansas, passed away Saturday morning, April 16, 2011 at the Hanover Hospital. Visitation was on Tuesday, April 19, from 10:00 A.M. until 8:00 P.M. and the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Hanover Mortuary. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 20, at the Presbyterian Church in Steele City, Nebraska, with Pastor Steven Frazier officiating. The congregation sang, "Amazing Grace" and "Abide With Me" accompanied by Lorene Staley on the organ. Pallbearers were Vince Bruna, Don Minge, Art Roskilly, Bill Mallean, Gordon Loges, and Loren Wollenberg. Burial was at the Steele City Cemetery. Robert John Rohlfs was born on July 8, 1923, in rural Hollenberg, Kansas, the son of John Gerhard and Olevia Marie (Wehling) Rohlfs. He was a veteran of World War II, first serving in the Merchant Marines and then the U.S. Army. John was a lifelong farmer in the Hollenberg and Hanover areas. He was the oldest member of the Presbyterian Church in Steele City, and he also belonged to the Hanover American Legion. John is survived by his sister, Lois Prell of Bremen. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Steele City and can be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary.
