Gary G. Menard, 70, of Hanover, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 29, 2011 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, at St. John's Lutheran Church at Lanham, Kansas. Rev. Gerald Manhold officiated. Mae Nieman played the organ while David Heuer sang “In the Garden” and “I Can Only Imagine”. The congregation sang “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “Thy Holy Wings”. The pallbearers were Rob Rettig, Robert Holle, Doug Schaeffer, Adrian Horne, Vernon Nieman and Galen Menard. Burial was in the Hanover City Cemetery. Gary was born on March 26, 1941 at Clyde, Kansas, the son of John J. and Regina (Marcotte) Menard. He graduated from Clyde High School where he excelled in track, football, and basketball, especially running the quarter mile. He is a graduate of Kansas Wesleyan. Gary proudly served in the United States Air Force. Gary was a member of the Elks Club in Salina where he achieved highest honors as High Exalted Ruler. He enjoyed spending time with family, playing golf, and KU basketball. He never knew a stranger. Survivors include his wife, Jill (Rettig) Menard, Hanover; son, Bryan (Johnna) Menard, Greenville, Tex.; step-children, Tammy (Doug) Schaeffer, Bremen, Kan., Lynette (Adrain) Horne, Overbrook, Kan., Rob Rettig, Overland Park, Kan.; two brothers, Donald (Joyce) Menard, Clyde, Kan., and Gail(Ila Fae) Menard, Owasso, Okla.; three grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and eleven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial contributions will be designated later and can be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
