Margaret E. Schwartz, 95, of Hanover, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Gardenside Care Center in Fairbury, Nebraska. A vigil service was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 19 at the Hanover Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 20 at St. John's Catholic Church in Hanover. Father Randall Weber officiated. Janet Fritschi played the organ while the church choir sang “Amazing Grace”, “Behold the Lamb”, “Eat the Spread” and “On Eagles Wings”. The pallbearers were Mike Rencin, Norbert Klipp, Robert Lohse, Anthony Stamm, Larry Schwartz and Harold Schwartz. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Hanover. Margaret was born April 14, 1916 near Hanover, the daughter of Fred Jr., and Maggie (Seitz) Wulff. She was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover by Pastor Karl Klinger. She attended Hanover public schools. On February 25, 1936, she married Paul Lohse at Hanover. To this union three children were born, Wilma Jean, Sarah Jane and Harlan Dean. They lived near Lanham for 11 years, then near Hollenberg until Paul passed away. On November 11, 1963, she married Joe Schwartz of Hanover. He worked in construction so the next few years were spent living in various towns following his job. In January 1967 they settled down in Hanover. Margaret worked part time at Schwartz's Store for several years. She enjoyed fishing, hunting Indian artifacts and mushroom hunting. She also enjoyed writing poems and stories for birthdays and anniversaries. She recycled, made many windsocks, liked riding horses, doing crossword puzzles and loved good bargains. Her pride and joy was riding her bicycle in the Days of ’49 parades. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, Altar Society, Label committee, and American Legion Auxiliary which she served as Chaplin for many years. Survivors include her daughter, Wilma (Bill) Laue, Diller, NE; two grandchildren, Cheryl (Bernie) Hart, Bassett, NE, and Merline (Teri) Banahan, Greenwood, FL; several step-grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Paul on May 9, 1962, Joe on November 29, 1993; 2 infant children; son-in-law, Don Banahan; and four brothers, Floyd, Edwin, Clarence and Wilbur. A memorial fund has been established in her name to be designated at a later time. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
