Nelda Twidwell, 97 of Frankfort, Kansas, died Monday morning, August 8, 2011 at the Frankfort Care Home. Visitation was on Tuesday, August 9, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 10, at the Presbyterian Church in Frankfort with Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiating. Sally McMillen sang "Ivory Palace" and "In The Garden" accompanied by Skip McMillen on on the organ. Pallbearers were William Twidwell, Kenneth Twidwell, Ray Twidwell, Clavin Hadorn, Tracy Stewart, and Craig MaHood. Burial was at the Frankfort City Cemetery. Nelda was born on September 18, 1913 at Blue Rapids, Kansas, the daughter of George and Isla (Ambrose) McHugh. She graduated from Blue Rapids High School and then worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Nelda married Jim Brophy and they had a son Robert Brophy. After Jim died she then married Donald Twidwell. Donald and Nelda lived in Phoenix, Arizona for 22 years and then returned to Frankfort to retire. She loved flowers and gardening and was an excellent housekeeper. Nelda was a devoted wife and church worker. She is survived by her husband, Donald Twidwell of Frankfort, a sister, Doris Cook of Vinton, Iowa, granddaughter, Sara Brophy, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jim Brophy, her son, Robert Brophy, and her two brothers, Robert and Don McHugh. Memorials will be designated later and can be sent in care of Padden Funeral chapel in Frankfort.
