Louis Charles Edwards, 86, of Marysville, KS, passed away Sunday, August 14 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation will be Sunday, August 21, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Burial will be in the Marysville City Cemetery. Lou was born March 9, 1925 in Sterling, Nebraska, to Sadie and Louis C. Edwards, Sr. He was the eldest of four sons. He graduated from Pawnee City High School in Nebraska with an Agriculture Course of Study. Lou was inducted into the Navy on January 13, 1944. While serving on the Anna H. Branch, he received the Ancient Order of the Deep on February 2, 1945, when he crossed the equator. He also served on the USS LC (FF) 535. He was honorably discharge on May 3, 1946, as Signalman 2nd Class. After the discharge from the Navy, Lou attended telegraphers school and was hired by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. He later worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad as a telegrapher, and was hired by the Union Pacific in Marysville, as the Chief Clerk to the Trainmaster. Later, he was transferred to Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked as the COIN Systems Supervisor for Union Pacific. He retired in 1985, and moved to Hastings, NE. In 1989, he returned to Marysville. In 1999, he began serving as Mayor in Marysville. Lou’s platform for election was “No Secrecy…a sound city government has nothing to conceal.“ He served as Mayor until 2007. He married Elizabeth (Betty) Strohecker on June 23, 1946. They had two sons, Chuck and Jay. Betty passed away on February 21, 2003. He later married Geraldine Clancy, on September 24, 2004. Lou was preceded in death by his parents, Sadie and Louis Edwards; brothers, Donald and George Edwards; grandson, Cameron Edwards; and great-grandson, Dakota Cornelison. Survivors include his wife, Gerri; sons, Chuck (Carol) Edwards, Rio Rico, Arizona, and Jay (Debi) Edwards, McPherson, Kansas; six grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Meadowlark Hospice or to St. Gregory's School and can be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville.
