Evelyn Josephine Taylor, 88, a longtime resident of Marysville, Kansas, died peacefully on August 20, 2011, at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Thursday, August 25, from 10 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., August 26, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang “Be Not Afraid”, “Amazing Grace”, “On Eagles Wings” and “Here I Am Lord.” The pallbearers were Jesse Taylor, Joe Taylor, Leland Edgar, Russel Rogers, Richard Doyle and Douglas Soltau. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Hanover. Evelyn was born May 27, 1923, at Hanover, Kansas, daughter of William and Josephine (Herynk) Ruhkamp. She lived on a farm for many years. In 1945, she moved to San Francisco with her sister, Mildred, and worked at Pacific Radio Crystal Plant, making crystals for radios used in airplanes. After the War, she returned to Kansas and worked for Southwestern Bell as a switchboard operator. In 1947, she married Roy Taylor and had two children. They later divorced. She lived in Kansas for the remainder of her life and worked in various jobs until her recent retirement from the thrift store in Marysville. Evelyn was a very outgoing individual who was devoted to her family, church and community. She enjoyed sewing, china painting, horseback riding, dancing, polka music and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wilfred Ruhkamp; and sisters, Sophia Neimeier and Mildred Dammann. Survivors include her sister, Mary Ann Lally, Marysville; son, Wayne Taylor, Wichita, KS; daughter, Marilyn Soltau, Austin, TX; three grandsons, Jesse and Joe Taylor, both of Wichita, KS, and Richard Taylor, Savannah; and three great-grandchildren, Mitchell, Vanessa and Jason Taylor.
