Roland D. "Ron" Marples, 83, of Marysville, KS, died Sunday, October 2, 2011, at his home. A funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. Carol O'Neal playe the organ while Doug, Greg and Kate Marples sang "Softly and Tenderly." The pallbearers were Steve Cohorst, Lee Mattingly, Lee Pappas, Allen Miller, Jeff Miller and Andy Miller. The honorary pallbearers were John Lowdermilk, Walter Schwarz, Norman Nork, Wayne Link, Wes Miller, John Robinson and Don Gier. Ron was born on March 2, 1928, at Cambridge, NE. the son of N. Beth Woodin. On June 15, 1952, he married Janine Miller at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Marysville. She preceded him in death in 1990. On August 16, 1996, he married Donna Borgerding at St. Gregorys Catholic Church in Marysville. Ron was a Pharmacist at Ar-Ex for many years. He was a member of Memorial Presbyterian Church. He served in the Army Occupation Japan and was an Arab Temple International Shriner. He graduated from high school at Cambridge, NE, and received a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Nebraska. Survivors include his wife, Donna; sons, Doug (Jane) Marples, Lawrence, KS, Brad (Aileen) Marples, Topeka, KS, Greg (Carla) Marples, Marysville; four grandchildren, Peter and Kate, Lawrence, Ian and Kirsten, Topeka; step-children, Mike (Deb) Borgerding, Norman, OK, Pat (Donna) Borgerding, Norman, OK, Renee (Mark) Hoffman, Marysville, and Larry and (Nancy Tolkerts deceased), Olive Branch, MS; eight step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother; and first wife, Janine. A memorial fund has been established and contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
