Vernon "Vern" Koehler

Vernon "Vern" Koehler, 86, of St. George, Utah, formerly of Hanover, Kansas, died at his residence in St. George. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, at St. John's Catholic Church in Hanover. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 22 at St. John's Catholic Church. Father David Metz officiated. The pallbearers were Dustin Koehler, Chris Koehler, Clint Koehler, Scott Koehler, Patrick Koehler, Jonathon Koehler, Joshua Koehler and Joe Penwell. Adam Koehler was the honorary pallbearer. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery. Vern was born on October 18, 1924 at Emmons, Kansas, the son of Ludwig and Rose (Goeckel) Koehler. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. Vern was a member of the Hanover American Legion, Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and the V.F.W. He married Therese Sekal, also of Hanover, on July 20, 1949. They enjoyed 62 years of marriage. Vern owned and operated the hardware store in Hanover, then moved to Denver, Colorado and ran a floor covering business. They then moved to Sun Lakes, Arizona where he took up the hobby of wood carving. In retirement, Vern and Therese traveled and lived in Kansas, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. Survivors include his wife, Therese Koehler, of Hanover, KS.; five children, John (Rhoda) Koehler, Pueblo, CO, Patricia Penwell, Scottsdale AZ, Bill (Debbie) Koehler, Washington, UT, Tom (Angela) Koehler, Hanover, KS, and Tony (Dana) Koehler, Phoenix, AZ; brother, Bob Martin, Hanover; sister, Evelyn Fairbanks, Tampa, FL; seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandchild. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Catholic Church Heating and Air Conditioning Fund or to the St. John's Catholic School, and can be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
