Virginia P. Swanson, 84, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, at St. Gregory's. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Prayer of St. Francis”, “On Eagles Wings” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Derek Swanson, Jim Schultejans, Dave Seagren, Gregg Hecke, Kevin Gose and Bill Nelson. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Virginia was born on April 3, 1927 to Otto and Johanna (Boeckmann) Schultejans at Marysville. She graduated from Marysville High School and attended business school in Kansas City and Cincinnati, Ohio. On Nov. 25, 1948 she was united in marriage to Robert Dean Swanson. They had three children, Deborah, Martin and David. Virginia worked for Grosshans & Peterson as office manager. She also worked at KPL, JTPA, Ott’s Electric, Hardee’s and Pony Express Auto. She was a member of the Moose Club, VFW, American Legion Auxiliary and Red Hat Society. In her spare time she enjoyed doing health research, playing cards, dancing, yard work and garage sales. She helped co-found the Marysville German Fest. Her parents preceded her in death; husband, Robert, in 1978; two brothers, Clarence and Wilburt Schultejans; and a grandson, Shawn Gose. Survivors include her daughter, Deborah (Don) Gose, Winfield, KS; two sons, Martin (Trisha) Swanson, Savannah, GA, and David (Lisa) Swanson, Hiawatha, KS; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinlsey Mortuary.
