Dolores Smith Brasher, 89, of Marysville, Kansas, died Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation will be on Monday, December 5, from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, December 6 , at the Marysville City Cemetery. Dolores was born on May 3, 1922 in Marysville to Max and Bertha (Freeby) Smith. She graduated from Beattie High School in 1939. After high school she attended N.Y.A. School in Marysville, where she had fond memories of her time there. As in high school she was a high achiever and played basketball. She was united in marriage to Clifford Brasher on April 29, 1946 in Columbiana, Alabama. She lived in Birmingham, AL for thirty years and in 1982 she moved back to Marysville. Dolores was a homemaker and a curator at Koester House. She loved to read, sew and was a great cook. She belonged to Eastern Star also. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clifford Brasher; sons-in-law, John Vowell, Jr. and Bruce Russell; brothers, Frank and Rodney Smith; and sisters, Phyllis Jones and Shirley Hardman. Survivors include her daughters, Melinda Vowell, Topeka, KS, Dana Johnson, Holiday, FL, Melissa Russell, Birmingham, AL; brother, Max Smith, Lincoln, NE; sisters, Betty Glick, Kennewick, WA, Verla Luckeroth, Marysville, and Judith Herrick, Topeka; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in her name and contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
