JoAnn Affholder

JoAnn Affholder, 77, of Oketo, KS, died Monday, December 26, 2011 at Stormont Vail in Topeka, KS. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, at Kinsley Mortuary. Rev. Dale Lewis officiated. Rev. Lewis sang "How Great Thou Art", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace." The pallbearers were Seann Denham, Curt Shaffer, Clay Shaffer, Chuck Shaffer, Josh Affholder, Chris Affholder and Johnny Todd Willey. Burial was in the Oketo Cemetery. JoAnn was born on July 27, 1934 near Liberty, NE, the daughter of Earl and Merle (Knight) Willey. She graduated from Barneston High School. On June 2, 1951 she married Elmer Lee Affholder at Seneca, KS. After they were married they lived at Oketo, KS. Her husband, Lee, worked for the Kansas Highway Patrol. His career took them to Edwardsville, Leavenworth, Topeka, Great Bend, Hays, and Chanute, KS. After his retirement they moved back to Oketo. She worked at the Topeka Drivers License Examiner Office and was a homecare assistant. She was a member of the Barneston Legion Auxiliary Post 365, Oketo United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She volunteered at the Marshall County Food Pantry. JoAnn was a great cook and loved her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending auctions, camping and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Lee, on December 22, 2009. Survivors include two sons, Rick (Linda) Affholder, Salina, KS, and Terry (Linda) Affholder, Stilwell, KS; two sisters, Arlene Shaffer, Topeka, KS, and Verda Matthews, Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the Marshall County Food Pantry. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
