Kenneth R. Martin, 69, of Marysville, died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 25 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 26, at St. Gregory's. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Rosemary Forst played the organ while the church choir sang. The pallbearers were Ryan Wieters, Paul Forst, Tim Hill, Ron Schwindamann, Matt Schmitz, Steve Harries and Jesse Edwards. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery at Hanover, Kansas. The Pony Express Riders were honorary escorts. Ken was born May 8, 1942, at Odell, NE, son of Raymond and Carolyn (Henneberg) Martin. He attended Limestone Rural School, St. John’s Grade School and graduated from Hanover High School. On June 8, 1963, he married Arleta Schmitz. Ken was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 28-year member of the National Pony Express Association and charter member of KANZA Chapter of the Oregon-California Trails Association. He worked for Cooksey Auto Parts, worked for over 25 years at Landoll Corporation, owned the Coachman Liquor Store, and did road maintenance for the Kansas Department of Transportation. In 2010 he retired. Survivors include his wife, Arleta; daughter, Alicia (Pat) Keegan, Baileyville; sons, Kirk (Jodi) Martin, Marysville, Jason (Theresa) Martin, Bellevue, NE, and Quinn Martin, Marysville; grandchildren, Mike, Jackie, Donovan, Kiera, Sarah, Shea, Kyle, Draven, Kaylor and Keryn; great-grandchildren, Sky, Josiah and Jordynn; brother Le (Mary Ann) Martin, Marysville; and sister, Barb (Ron) Thomas, Ozawkie, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Michael. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
