Irvin Dean Dierking, 80, of Fairview, KS, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Sabetha Community Hospital, Sabetha, KS. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 12, at Kinsley Mortuary. Burial was in Zion-Mt. Calvary Lutheran Cemetery, Herkimer. Irvin was born on April 15, 1932, to Alfred and Edna (Pralle) Dierking on the farm near Herkimer, KS. He spent his childhood at Herkimer and attended Zion Lutheran parochial school. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Herkimer. He helped on the farm for several years and worked many years at the Herkimer Co-op as a fuel truck driver where he made many friends. He later moved to Summerfield and worked for Meyer Lumber Company before moving to Fairview and working at the lumberyard. He purchased the lumberyard and opened Dierking Lumber. Irvin enjoyed going to auctions and being a part time auctioneer. He especially enjoyed being called Col. Dierking. Survivors include his brother, Glen (Margie) Dierking, Marysville; two sisters, Darlene (Norman) Rippe, Smith Center, KS, and Fern (Steve) Kostal, Odell, NE; brother-in-law, Earl Schwarz, Beattie, KS; sister-in-law, JoAnne Dierking, Monett, MO; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arlo Dierking and Eldon Dierking; sister, Alma Schwarz; and sister-in-law, Rosalie Dierking. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
