Irene Neumann, 86, of Hanover, KS, died June 12, 2012 peacefully in her home. Visitation was Thursday, June 14, from noon until 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 15 at Zion Lutheran Church, Hanover. Rev. Jill Menard officiated. Mae Nieman played the organ while Kelsey Goodwin sang "Just As I Am", "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" and "Abide With Me." The pallbearers were Brad Doebele, Scott Doebele, Jerry Johnson, Keith Bruna, Bruce Jasch and Dale Allerheiligen. The honorary pallbearers were Mike Leseberg, Cindy Johnson, Kristy Bruna, Jamie Bruna, Charles Griswold and Kevin Rettig. Burial was in the Hanover City Cemetery. Irene was born August, 28 1925 at Hanover, KS, the daughter of Frank Sr., and Hilda (Molt) Ebeling. In 1942 she graduated from Hanover High School. On November 6, 1949, she married Merlin Rettig. He preceded her in death on January 11, 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents. She married Harold Neumann. They later divorced. Irene was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover and also a 55 year member of Clement T. Farrell American Legion Auxiliary Unit 306. She enjoyed watching sports, especially Kansas Jayhawk basketball & KC Royals baseball, playing bingo, selling Avon, bowling, gardening, embroidering, and above all else, spending time with her family. Survivors include two daughters, Sandi (Wayne) Doebele, Silver Lake, KS, and Linda (Roy) Bruna, Wamego, KS; son, Warren Rettig, Wichita, KS; two brothers, Frank Ebeling, Jr., Olathe, KS, and Keith Ebeling, Meridan, ID; sister, Evelyn Jasch, Hastings, NE; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to Zion Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Hanover Mortuary.
