August A. Kathe, 98, of Marysville, KS, died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Monday, June 25, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Monday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, at St. Gregory's. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang "All the Earth, Proclaim the Lord", "Bread, Blessed and Broken", "On Eagles Wings" and "I Have Loved You." The pallbearers were Robert Dwerlkotte, Bernard Kathe, Gilbert Schmitz, John Brychta, David Bruna and Mark Bruna. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. August was born January 24, 1914 near Marysville, KS, the son of Bernard and Sophie (Bornhorst) Kathe. He attended St. Gregory's Catholic School until the 8th grade. On October 31, 1959 he married Hermina Dwerlkotte at St. Gregory's. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2001. August enjoyed farming, his family, coon hunting, trapping and fishing. He was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church. August was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and ten siblings, Marie Lewis, Louise Sheair, Margaret Osterhaus, Herman Kathe, Francis Kathe, Kathleen Bruna, Raymond "Jack" Kathe, and infants Henry, Helen and Elizabeth Kathe. Survivors include two sons, Robert (Linda) Dwerlkotte, Hutchinson, KS, and Bernard (Mary Hess) Kathe, Fairbury, NE; sisters, Alice Schmitz, Marysville, and Ann Brychta, Denison, TX. A memorial fund has been established to St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
