Harold Wanklyn, 93, of Frankfort, KS, died Sunday, August 12, 2012 at Cambridge Place, Marysville. Visitation was Wednesday, August 15 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Padden Funeral Chapel, Frankfort. The family received friends 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 16 at the First Presbyterian Church, Frankfort. Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. Skip McMillen played the organ while Sally McMillen sang “There is Sunshine.” The congregation will sing “What a Friend We Have In Jesus.” The pallbearers were Morgan Wanklyn, Shannon Colvin, Travis Cashier, David Frisbie, Jason Frisbie and Tim Wanklyn. The honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Wanklyn, Dennis Wanklyn, Wayne Fincham, Chester Fincham, Allan Wanklyn, Mark Wanklyn, Jim Wilson and Keith Fincham. Burial was in Beattie Union Cemetery. Harold was born February 1, 1919 on a farm near Frankfort, son of Morgan and Gertrude (Fincham) Wanklyn. He attended school in Frankfort and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1937. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years and then went to Los Angeles, CA, where he was a machinist for Cannon Electric. He met and married Virginia Heffel from Russell, KS, together they lived in Beverly Hills, CA, and Florida before moving back to Frankfort to farm and raise their four children. He retired as an accomplished farmer, winning awards in crop terracing and soil conservation. Harold was a cattleman and a master craftsman, building several grandfather clocks, restoring a 1931 Model A coupe, and followed through with precision in maintaining his farming equipment and vehicles. He was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Frankfort where he served as an Elder, a sixty year member of the Frankfort American Legion, member of the Beattie Masonic Lodge, Marysville Shriners and Kansas Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Virginia; daughters, Kathy (Rick) Peltz, Palo Cedro, CA, Angie (Rick) Frisbie, Salina, KS, Karen Romay, Manhattan, KS; son, David (Sharon) Wanklyn, Frankfort, KS; sisters, Helen Padden, Arkansas City, KS, Nina (Bob) Pennington, Arizona; five grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces. A memorial fund has been established to the church or the Frankfort American Legion. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
