Walter Harold Metz, 80 of Hanover, Kansas died August 24, 2012 at Hanover Hospital. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 28, at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover. Mass of Chrisitian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 29, at St. John's Catholic Church. Bishop Edward Weisenburger and Father David Metz officiated. Janet Fritschi played the organ while the church choir sang “In the Garden”, “How Great Thou Art”, "You Are Mine” and “Jerusalem My Destiny.” The pallbearers were Jim Martin, Bob Scheck, Mark Goeckel, Randy Goeckel, Ron Vochatzen and Richard Bosley. Burial was in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Hanover. Walter was born April 2, 1932 in Kansas City, Kansas the son of William and Priscilla Quinn Metz. He graduated from Argentine High School in Kansas City. On June 14, 1969, he married Judy Darlene Wayt. Walter worked for Procter and Gambles 41 years as a millwright. He retired in 1992. He and his wife then lived in Hays, KS, and Russell, KS, before moving to Hanover in 2011 to be near his son, David, who is serving the Hanover parish as Priest. Walter enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading western history and crossword puzzles. Survivors include his wife, Judy Metz, Hanover; and son, Father David Metz, Hanover. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Priscillia Bosley; and brothers, William, Paul, Francis, George, Albert and Jack.
