Marjorie "Marge" Smith

Marjorie “Marge” P. Smith, 94, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 13, at United Methodist Church, Beattie. Rev. Susan Montgomery officiated. Jane Sedlacek played the organ while Kathie Rueger sang “Amazing Grace.” The congregation sang "Jesus Loves Me.” The pallbearers were Bob Wright, Bill Myers, Ed Hawkins, Galen Walters, Lonnie Jones and Charles Binggeli. Burial was in the Beattie Union Cemetery. Marge was born May 19, 1918 at Burchard, NE, to Frank and Mary (Urich) Waniska. She attended school in Burchard and graduated in 1936. In 1938, she married Merlyn Harry. To this marriage two children were born, Barbara and Merlyn Lynn. Marge and Merlyn worked at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita building B-29’s. After the war they returned to Beattie to make their home. Merlyn passed away in November, 1946. In 1950, she married Millard “Buck” Smith. To this marriage one son was born, Dennis. Buck passed away in July, 1975. Marge was a homemaker and also candled eggs for Wilson and Company. She cooked at the Beattie schools for 26 years (many will remember her cinnamon rolls). In 1998, she moved to Elm Street Apartments in Marysville but always considered Beattie her home. In the fall of 2004, she fell and broke her hip and moved to Frankfort Community Care Home. She was a longtime member the United Methodist Church in Beattie, Legion Auxiliary and R.S.V.P. Marge was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Merlyn Lynn Harry and Millard “Buck” Smith; five brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include her sons, Dennis Smith, Oketo, KS, and Lynn Harry, Lincoln, NE; daughter, Barbara Sampson, Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law, Colleen Lewis, Topeka, KS; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church in Beattie. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
