Paul W. "Bill" Blumer, 78, of Marysville, KS, died Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Mercy Regional Health Center, Manhattan, KS. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, October 3, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, Marysville. Rev. Donnie Hofman officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while the choir sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” The congregation sang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” The pallbearers were Allen Prell, Jim Chaulk, Ed Taphorn, Denny Smith, Kenny Koch and Devern Linkugel. The honorary pallbearers were Bud Schuette, Eldred Smith, Whitey Blocker, Duke Schramm, Lloyd Richardson, Rodney Meyer, LeRoy Heiserman, Kent Obermeyer and Bill Schwindamann. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Bill was born April 14, 1934 at Marysville, KS, son of Herman and Pauline (Brauch) Blumer. He attended school in Marysville and graduated from Marysville High School in 1953. He was a supporter of USD 364 School District. In 1953, he joined the National Guard and in 1957 served in Germany for two years. After returning home, he served another two years before being honorably discharged. In 1957, he married Laurinda Licht. They were blessed with four children. In 1960, Bill took over the family farm raising crops, hogs and cattle. He also did custom harvesting and had a small manufacturing business in Home, KS, with two others where they made hay moving equipment, stock racks, trailers, hitches and did general welding. Bill served on the Spring Creek Water Shed Board. In 1957, he joined Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church where he was active on the Board of Directors and sang in the church choir. In 2003, Bill retired and moved into Marysville. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and riding his Honda trike. Survivors include his children, Rick Blumer, Mike (Michelle) Blumer, Steve (Deb) Blumer, and Janet (Kevin) Kirkland, all of Marysville; and thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents; and sister, Mary. A memorial fund has been established to Good Shepherd Lutheran School. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
