Dorothy M. Davis, 87, of Marysville, died October 1, 2012 at Country Place Senior Living. She lived her life for faith, family and friends. She had an amazing positive spirit that hallmarked the way she lived. A rosary service was held at 4 p.m., Sunday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 8, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Cindy Voet played the organ while the church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Panis Angelicus”, “On Eagles Wings”, “Song of Farewell” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth.” The pallbearers were Matt Hall, Josh Davis, Jason Davis, Scott Davis, Lance Davis, Jimmy Davis, Dennis Eddy and Dale Meinecke. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Dorothy was born September 12, 1925 at Marysville, the first born daughter of Edward and Blanche Cooper. In 1939, she graduated from St. Gregory’s grade school and Marysville High School in 1943. In 1947, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Saint Mary College. Dorothy’s teaching career was pre-empted by a decision to marry her life partner. On Nov. 29, 1947, she married Jim Davis and they raised their family in Marysville. She worked as secretary to Robert Ferguson, Attorney at Law, until the birth of their first child. She worked in the home raising her children until her return to the workforce in 1968. She was employed with City Sewing until retiring in 1990. Dorothy’s faith and devotion to the church was exemplary. She served as church secretary, member of the cemetery board, and St. Gregory’s Altar Society. She was a member of the Athenaeum Club, American Legion Auxiliary and Rural Mail Carriers’ Association. As a life-long Democrat she served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Marshall County Democratic Party for over forty years. One of her many social interests included playing bridge. Dorothy was a founding member of the Hi-Lo Bridge Club, which had its origin some sixty years ago. As an avid sport enthusiast, she took great pride in supporting her favorite teams and players. Dorothy considered FAMILY her proudest accomplishment. She will be remembered for her graciousness, kindness, warmth, and laughter. Survivors include her sons, Greg Davis, Topeka, KS, Ed Davis, San Antonio, TX, Jimbo Davis, Marysville, and Paul Davis, Lenexa, KS; daughters, Elizabeth Davis, Topeka, and Jan Davis, Tulsa, OK; sister, Mary Elizabeth Hall, Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, James, in 1997. A memorial fund has been established to St. Gregory's Catholic School or donors choice.
