Gustoff "Gus" E. Claeys, 88, of Marysville, KS, died Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation will be Friday, 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Kinsley Mortuary. A rosary service will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 6, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy will officiate. The musicians will be Rosemary Forst and Scotti Claeys. Music will include “Prayer of St. Francis”, “Amazing Grace”, "On Eagles Wings”, “You Are Mine” and “Now Thank We All Our God.” The pallbearers will be Alan Vering, Steve Vering, Matt Claeys, Mike Claeys, Chris Claeys, Ryan Claeys, Henry Claeys, Bryce Bennett, David Jueneman, Michael Jueneman, Dustin Claeys and Dylan Claeys. Burial will be in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. Gus was born October 8, 1923, near Marysville, KS, son of Emiel and Marie (Van Heicke) Claeys. He attended rural McLeod Grade School, St. Gregory's Catholic School, Topeka Catholic High School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1941. On October 10, 1945, he married Bernice Ann Benda at St. John's Catholic Church, Hanover, KS. The lived their entire married lives north of Marysville where he enjoyed farming and raising his six children. Survivors include two daughters, Connie (Francis) Vering, Marysville, Dolores (Paul) Jueneman, Washington, KS; four sons, Richard (Judy) Claeys, David (Tammy) Claeys, Kenneth (Judy Jo) Claeys, all of Marysville, and Gary Claeys, Manhattan, KS; two brothers, Victor Claeys, St. George, KS, and Francis Claeys, Marysville; nineteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; parents; sister, Margaret Wood; brothers, Maurice, Lawrence and August Claeys; and infant daughter, Susan M. Claeys, in 1962. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
