Betty L. Barnard, 76, of Marysville, KS, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Health Center, Lincoln, NE. Visitation was Tuesday, November 13, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 14, at the First Christian Church, Marysville. Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. Deb Landoll played the organ while Paula Landoll-Smith sang. Music included “Holes in the Floor of Heaven”, “Old Rugged Cross” and “Amazing Grace.” The pallbearers were Jeff Shew, Collin Meints, Brian Rosno, Adam Guillon, Anthony Hill, Wade Osterich, Devin Meints, Cole Dornhoff, Jared Osterich, Beau Vandergrift, Erik Vandergrift and Terry Vandergrift. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Betty Lou was born on February 7, 1936 at Beatrice, NE to George and Dorothy (Hansel) DeRyke. She attended Cortland High School, Cortland, NE. On November 28, 1953 she married Jerry Barnard at Lincoln, NE. Betty worked for Latta Plumbing and was an Avon consultant. She loved dancing, bowling, Kansas State football games, going gambling and playing cards with her friends. Family was important to Betty; spending time with her grandsons, and attending family gatherings. She loved cooking for her family and church events. Meatballs and strawberry pie were favorites. Betty enjoyed working in her garden, growing flowers and her dog “Rocky.” Survivors include her husband, Jerry "J.B." Barnard; daughter, Kathy Barnard, Marysville; son, Rick (Marla) Barnard, Houston, TX; brother, Mike (Jackie) DeRyke, Shelby, NE; two sisters, Donna Shew, Beatrice, NE, and Karla (Wayne) Hill, Filley, NE; and two grandsons, Jason Barnard and Kyle Barnard. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Tami Sue Barnard; and two sisters, Maxine Meints and Ruth Vandegrift. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date.
