Mary L. Cassidy, 73 of Beattie, Kansas, died Wednesday morning, November 28, 2012 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville, Kansas. The Rosary was at at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 30, at St. Malachy's Catholic Church in Beattie. Fr. Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Jane Sedlacek was the organist and Ron and Fran Grauer sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Be Not Afraid”, “How Lovely is Your Dwelling Place”, “You Are Mine” and “Go in Peace.” Burial was in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Beattie. Pallbearers were Brian Studer, Brian Throm, Dennis Holthaus, David Holthaus, Mark Borgerding and John Henry Borgerding. Honorary pallbearers were Galen Walters, Rod Craig, Mike Studer, Frank O’Neil, Lynn Holthaus, Kenny Kopp and Bob Sandmann. Mary Cassidy was born to Henry F. and Mary C. (Smith) Borgerding on March 7, 1939 on the farm south of Marysville. She attended Pleasant Prairie School for 8 years and graduated from Marysville High School in 1956. For three years she attended Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison and finally graduated in 1960 from Kansas State University. “Once a Wildcat, Always a Wildcat.” Mary taught Spanish, English and practiced library work, for 55 years, mostly at Clay Center, Hanover and B & B. She also spent time teaching at Hoxie, Centralia, Nemaha Valley, Valley Heights, Axtell and Summerfield. She never met a student she didn’t like. On June 20, 1969, Mary was united in marriage to William S. “Sam” Cassidy at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Marysville. Mary was a member of St. Malachy’s Catholic Church in Beattie. She was active in her church, school and community activities. Mary enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, and taking family vacations to see the USA in their BUICK! Preceding her in death were her parents; son, William; brother, John Borgerding; and sisters, Irene Throm and Helena Augustine. Survivors include her husband, Sam; son, Courtney Cassidy of Beattie; brothers, Henry Borgerding , James Borderding both of Blue Rapids, Paul Borgerding of Anderson, IN and David Borgerding of Stilwell, KS.
