Katherine L. Funk, 102, of Marysville, KS, died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 15, at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. The Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. Deb Landoll played the organ while the congregation sang "Precious Lord, Take My Hand" and "In the Garden." Katherine was born June 21, 1910, on the family farm near Oneida, KS, daughter of Chester Arthur and Laura (Conwell) Funk. She was the fifth of twelve children. In 1928, she graduated from Oneida High School. She then attended two summers of Normal School at Emporia, KS, and then taught Country School in Nemaha County, KS, for 12 years. After her teaching career she attended business school in Kansas City. During WWII she worked at the Martin Bomber Plant. She then worked at Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Company in Omaha until her retirement at age 65. She was a member of the Insurance Women’s Organization, Daughters of the Nile, First Christian Church in Omaha where she was also a member of the Victory Sunday School Class, and then a member of the First Christian Church in Marysville. She enjoyed helping family, golfing, bowling, ballroom dancing, playing scrabble and working crossword puzzles. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Dorothy Stoller Moser, David Funk, Harold Funk, Howard Funk, Revere Funk, Alice Van Nortwick, Frances Lienart, Velma Mongold Leirz, Raymond Funk, Frank Funk and Betty Thomas. Survivors include many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the First Christian Church in Marysville. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
