Thomas Calvin Lay

Thomas Calvin Lay, 67, of Blue Rapids, KS, died December 18, 2012 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., January 12, 2013, at Kinsley Mortuary. Thomas was born on September 26, 1945, in Atchinson, KS, to Wesley and Thelma Ruth. In 1951, he was adopted by Austin and Velma (Abby) Lay. He graduated from Chapman High School, where he was a four time state wrestling champion. Thomas was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. He drove a truck for Grand Island Express. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, doing plumbing projects, and playing video games. He was married to Claudia Pearson in 1964 and Wendy Clausen in 1967. In 1976, Tom was united in marriage to Cheryl Holliday at Wetumpka, AL. She survives. His survivors also include daughter, Laura Ground of Marysville; son, Todd Lay of Waterville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; infant daughter, Amy Lay; brother, Daniel Lay; and sister, Rachel. A memorial fund has been established in his name.
