Marjory Haecker

Marjory “Marj” Shaw Roche Haecker, 84, passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Blue Rapids, KS. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 12, at the Church of Christ in Marysville. Dennis Holst officiated. Private family burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Waterville, KS. Marjory was born to Benjamin Shaw and LaVerna (Woodward) Shaw on 10/17/28 in Waterville, KS. In 1952, she married Don Roche. She is survived by their children, Rebecca (Herb) Iams of Topeka, KS; William (Marilyn) Roche and Don (Debbie)Roche of Frankfort, KS; and Elizabeth Littrell of Fresno, CA. In 1973, she married Elmer Haecker. She is survived by his children, Pansy (Walt) Rudolph and Joe (Linda) Haecker, of Blue Rapids, KS. She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and sixteen great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Alice Shaw Brady and Louise Shaw Brady; brother, Jonathan Shaw; former husband, Don Roche; husband, Elmer Haecker; stepson, Bill Haecker; and grandson, Todd Slifer. Marjory was a graduate of Waterville High School and attended Kansas State University. She was a past Worthy Matron of the Elnora Chapter of the Eastern Star and a current member of Clay Center Chapter #180. She was a fifty year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and a member of the NRA. She was a past board member and president of Twin Valley Developmental Services, a past member of the Valley Heights USD #498 School Board, and had recently served for ten years on the boards of the Northeast Area Agency on Aging and the Marshall County Historical Society. Marjory engaged in a variety of occupations throughout her life, including owning an antique store in Blue Rapids with her husband, Elmer and, most recently, owning “The Gift Box” in Frankfort, KS where she gained a reputation as “the fudge lady”, before retiring. A memorial fund has been established for the Church of Christ, Marysville, KS or the Marshall County Historical Society, Marysville, KS.
