Francis A. Nordhus, 84, of Marysville, KS, died Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation was Monday, February 11, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Monday, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 12, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. The pallbearers were Dick Nordhus, Steve Nordhus, Matt Nordhus, Phil Nordhus, Jim Nordhus, Mike Nordhus and John Herbin. Burial was in the church cemetery. Francis was born October 1, 1928 at Marysville, son of Frank and Josepha (Dwerlkotte) Nordhus. He attended St. Gregory's Catholic School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1946. After high school he helped his dad on the family farm and dairy. On July 7, 1953 he married Anna Gausepohl. She preceded him in death on February 10, 2000. In January 1955, Francis entered the U.S. Army and was stationed at Sixth Army Headquarters in San Francisco. He served until October 1956. After serving he returned and farmed the rest of his life north of Marysville where he raised wheat, corn, beans and milo, along with a small herd of cattle. He was active in St. Gregory's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and was a Fourth Degree Knight. He was also a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed listening to ball games, playing baseball on the town team, neighborhood card clubs, was a fan of Kansas State, going to his grandchildren's ball games, and traveling with his wife, Ann. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna; parents, Frank and Josepha; brothers, Norbert and Vic Nordhus; and sister, Betty Dam. Survivors include his children, Chris (Royce) Rogge, Riley, KS, Deb (Dave) Dwerlkotte, Frankfort, KS, Dave (Judy) Nordhus, Wichita, KS, Diane Nordhus, Kansas City, and Marty (Denise) Nordhus, Marysville; two brothers, Jim (Mary) Nordhus, Marysville, and Jerry (Jean) Nordhus, Shawnee Mission, KS; sister, Edith (John) Herbin, Jamestown, KS; sister-in-law, Barbara Nordhus, Marysville; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
