Kenneth R. Cooper, 79, of Marysville, KS, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Sunday, 4 to 8 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Monday, February 25 at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Blue Rapids. Rev. Jerry Zanker officiated. Kenneth was born October 14, 1933, at Winifred, KS, son of Francis R. and Minnie (Lewis) Cooper. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1961. Kenneth lived 5 years before moving to Marysville in 1977. He worked for Snodgrass Salvage Yard in Blue Rapids, Salina and Bennington, KS, before working for the City of Marysville Street Department for 14 1/2 years and two years at the Marysville tree and brush burn site. Kenneth enjoyed salvage work and continued dealing in salvage until a few years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Cecil Cooper; and four sisters, Nina Pitts, Barbara Fattig, Mary Gastmann and Alice Douglas. Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two sons, Justin Cooper, Washington, KS, and Jason Cooper, Garden City, KS; two step-daughters, Sally Jo Hittle, Marysville, and Darlene Wadsworth, Great Bend, KS; two step-sons, George Lewis, Great Bend, and James Williams, Okema, OK; brother, Fred "Butch" Cooper, Topeka, KS; eleven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated at a later date. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
