Arlin "Art" Duensing

August 26, 1936 — March 11, 2013

Arlin "Art" Duensing, 76, of Marysville, KS, died Monday, March 11, 2013 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was held Thursday, March 14, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family received friends 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 15 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Donnie Hofman officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while the congregation sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand." The choir sang “Softly & Tenderly” and “Abide With Me.” The pallbearers were Kent Duensing, Darrell Gerdes, Mike Riggert, Dennis Tjaden, Doug Meyer and Larry Walter. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Marysville American Legion. Art was born August 26, 1936 near Odell, NE, son of Henry and Hulda (Schotte) Duensing. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran School, Bremen, KS, and graduated from Marysville High School in 1954. After serving in the Army National Guard for 8 years, he completed a year of active duty in the Army, receiving an honorable discharge in September of 1962. Art worked for Gay-Mar and Safeway before beginning his career with Wheeler's / Country General farm supply stores, retiring as manager in 1996. Art was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, serving in various offices and was a member of the church choir. He was a member of the American Legion and past member of the church choir. He was also a member of the American Legion and past member of Marysville Lions. He also started a Parkinson's Support Group in Marysville. He was united in marriage to Marcine Rogge at Zion Lutheran Church, Linn, KS, on June 1, 1958. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter. Survivors include his wife; son, Jim (Julie) Duensing, Brentwood, TN, and children, Heather and Parker; daughter, Angie (Tom) Davies, Omaha, NE, and children, Emma, Evan, and Sergei; and Rick (Rhonda) Duensing, Geneva, NE, and children, Jordan and Hannah; sisters, Lorna Riggert and Leona (Vern) Tjaden, Marysville, and Verneda (Gerald) Gerdes, Lincoln, NE; and brother, Melvin (Arlene) Duensing, Marysville. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial fund has been established to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church or Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland.
