Isla M. Schwarz, 83, of Home, KS, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Cambridge Place, Marysville. Visitation was Thursday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary, Marysville. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 6, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Friday, June 7 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while Barb Knecht sings “Here I Am Lord”, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand”, “Lord I Am Not Worthy”, “How Great Thou Art” and “You Are Mine.” The pallbearers were Dominic Schwarz, Patrick Baumgartner, Joseph Schwarz, Jonathan Schwarz, Dustin Leonard, Joshua Schwarz, Dallas Leonard and Randell Brown. The honorary pallbearers were Justice Schwarz, Larry Schmitz, Mick Pache, Jeff Gray and Brice Leonard. Burial was in the church cemetery. Isla was born February 7, 1930, at Herkimer, KS, daughter of Dominic and Laura (Schwindamann) Schmitz, the youngest of nine children. She attended school in Herkimer, St. Gregory's Catholic School and graduated from Marysville High School. She married the love of her life, Elmer Schwarz, on August 23, 1947. They lived on the family farm, where Isla enjoyed the life of a farming family. She also worked thirty-two years at Walmart. Isla enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing cards, embroidery and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and dance recitals. She also made the best sweet pickles around. Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers, A.J. "Sam", Jack, Vere, Dominic, Bill; two sisters, Anna Ring, Bernice Pache; son-in-law, Edward Brown; and two grandchildren, Paula Brown and Daniel Schwarz. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Elmer; seven children, Beverly Brown, Topeka, Janet (Bob) Harrison, Topeka, David (Gerry) Schwarz, Home, Theresa (Bruce) Leonard, Marysville, Marilyn (Ron) Hodgen, Yukon, OK, Patty (Bob) Baumgartner, Sabetha and Darrel (Vicki) Schwarz, Unadilla, NE; sister, Barbara Nordhus, Marysville; sisters-in-law, Alice Schmitz and Wally Schmitz, both of Marysville, and Edith Schmitz, Herkimer; twenty-two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in her name and will be designated by the family. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
