Bertha R. Mangold, 82, of Marysville, KS, died Saturday, June 15, 2013 at the Life Care Center of Seneca. Visitation was Tuesday, June 18, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 19, at Kinsley Mortuary. Rev. Marilyn Sweet officiated. Deb Landoll played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art.” The pallbearers were Wesley Worthington, Lyle Worthington, Jerrold E. Dunken, Robert Mitchell, Scott Padgett, Whitey Blocker, Terry Wimer and Kory Sepos. The honorary pallbearers were Bonnie Dunken, Jermyn Dunken, Jarman Dunken, Linda Mangold, Gail Mangold, Javan Dunken, Renee Lyons and Linda Padgett. Burial was in the Home Cemetery, Home, KS. Bertha was born June 1, 1931, at Pickrell, NE, daughter of Willie and Jolena Grace (Evers) Waltke. On November 11, 1951, she married Alton "Shorty" Mangold. They later divorced. She was a farmwife and also worked at the Mary Marshall Manor in Marysville. Bertha enjoyed gardening and canning, animals, polka music and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy Brucker and Grace Pickett; and great-grandson, Noah Jodan Koerwitz. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie (Jerald) Dunken, Marysville; two sons, Elton (Gail) Mangold, Leavenworth, KS, and Allen (Linda) Mangold, Summerfield, KS; three sisters, Johanna Forsyth, Rio Grande, NJ, Irene Johnson and Elizabeth Behrens, both of Lincoln, NE; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
