Joeanne M. Peterson, 75, of Wymore, NE, and formerly of Hanover, KS, died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Wymore. Visitation was Thursday, June 27, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Hanover Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 28 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover. Rev. Donna Florio and Clayton Lundsteadt officiated. Music include “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove”, “I Can Only Imagine” and “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Joel Wilgers, Jim Zabokrtsky, Kurt Wilson, Dennis Wilson, John Zabokrtsky and Scott Zabokrtsky. Burial was in the Hanover City Cemetery. Joeanne was born October 31, 1937 at home in Washington County, KS, daughter of Henry J. and Helen R. (Meyn) Zabokrtsky. She attended Mount Hope School until the 8th grade. On April 22, 1970 she married Charles H. Funk. He preceded her in death in 1974. On September 4, 1977 she married David B. Peterson at Waterville, KS. He preceded her in death on December 26, 2006. Joeanne was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover since 1951, the Red Hat Society and T.O.P.S. She worked at the Hanover Hospital for 30 years until retiring in 2005. She owned and operated the Road Runner in Bremen, KS, and worked as a nurse’s aide in various hospitals and retirement homes. In 2011, she moved to Wymore with her great niece and nephew-in-law, Crystal and David Canfield. She enjoyed collecting antiques, rubber stamping, garage sales, genealogy, fishing, spending time with friends and family, baking, gardening and making horseradish. She volunteered at the Kloppenburg Center, distributing commodities and meals on wheels and helping with church functions. Joeanne was never afraid to work, always loved a "good deal" and got a thrill out of life helping others when she could. She loved children. Enjoyed traveling to different places when able, was strong-willed, loved to laugh and share stories of youthful experiences. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Charles H. Funk and David B. Peterson; daughter, Ann Marie; sister, Mary Ann Vater; brother, Raymond W. Zabokrtsky; and step-sons, John L. Peterson and Roger C. Funk. Survivors include three step-children; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry J. Zabokrtsky, Blue Rapids, KS, James E. Zabokrtsky (Sherry), Marysville, KS; and Lola Zabokrtsky, Barnes, KS; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established and will be designated later.
