Fern M. Schneider

Fern M. Schneider, 89, of Marysville, KS, and formerly of Summerfield, KS, died Sunday, July 21, 2013 at Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville. Visitation will be Friday, July 26, from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Wymore, NE. Rev. Tyler Hauptmeier will officiate. Mrs. Brenda Rempe will play the organ while the congregation sings “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Children of the Heavenly Father”. The pallbearers will be Alan How, John Atwater, Mike Gee, Larry Cameron, Larry Brucker and Allen Naaf. The honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Schneider, Gerald Schneider, R.D. Deitrick, Wayne Link, Ivan Knowles, Keith Rees, Cecil Schneider, Jr., and Fred Gee. Burial will be in the Wymore Cemetery. Fern was born June 15, 1924 at Barneston, NE, daughter of George and Anna (Pacha) Chadima. She graduated from Barneston High School in 1943. On February 18, 1943, she married Bernell Schneider at Barneston. After they were married he left to serve in the U.S. Army during WWII for 3 years. During this time she worked at a general store in Barneston. After Bernell returned from the Army they made their home near Summerfield, KS, and were lifelong farmers. Fern enjoyed living on the farm until she moved in 2009 to Country Place Senior Living in Marysville. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially African Violets. Fern was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Summerfield where she had been a member of the Dorcas Society and a Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbor Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernell, on July 6, 1996; and three sisters, Marie Patterson, Valaria Schneider, and infant sister, Elizabeth Jean. Survivors include two daughters, Bev (Rod) Nash, Hutchinson, KS, and Brenda (Gib) Compton, Wichita, KS; son, Leo (Karen) Schneider, Marysville; sister, Bernadine (R.D.) Deitrick, Milford, KS; three grandchildren, Jennifer Nash, Jill Nash, and Shawn (Jessica) Schneider; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Daren and Jennifer Schneider. A memorial fund has been established for a garden bench to be placed at Country Place Senior Living in her name.
