Larry R. Mueller, 65, of Hanover, KS, died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 near Washington, KS. Visitation was Saturday, October 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Hanover Mortuary. The family received friends from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service was held at 12:00 p.m. (Noon), Sunday, October 6, at the Hanover Community Center. Pastor Donna Florio and Jill Menard officiated. Mae Nieman played the organ while Shelly Polson sang “Amazing Grace”, “Lord’s Prayer” and “I Guess Heaven Was Needing a Hero”. The congregation sang “This Is My Father’s World”, “On Eagles Wings” and “May the Choirs of Angels Come to Greet You”. The pallbearers were Lee Hynek, Jim Heuer, Jay Naegele, Mike Minge, Allan Kruse and Jacob Fritschi. Burial was in the Hanover City Cemetery. Larry was born on April 2, 1948 at Beatrice, NE, to Charles and Grace (Laue) Mueller. In 1966, he graduated from Hanover High School. He attended Emporia State for one year and then transferred to Kansas State where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. After college he returned to Hanover where he farmed and raised cattle with his dad. Larry was an owner of Wildcat Express & After Hours Liquor in Hanover with his family and also an Asgrow Seed Dealer. He was very active in the community and served on the Hanover Coop Elevator Board, USD 223 School Board, Hanover Rural Water District Board, Hanover Hospital Board, and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church Council. Larry served as an EMT on the Hanover Hospital Ambulance Service for over twenty years. He was also a founding member of the Washington County Community Foundation. He was a 32 degree Mason of Blue Lodge #91 of Marysville, KS, a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and a member of the Isis Temple of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S.). Larry loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family and his grandchildren. On July 10, 1971, he was married to Patricia Pearce at Sedan, KS. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Kim Hynek, Hanover; son, Ryan Mueller, Kansas City, MO; his mother, Grace Mueller, Hanover; sisters, Barbara (Jack) Houghton, Urbandale, IA, Valeria (Wayne) Converse, Manhattan, KS; Thelma (Scott) Werner, Kansas City, MO; and three grandchildren – Ashley, Kylie and Blake Hynek. Larry was preceded in death by his father Charles J. Mueller. A memorial fund has been established with the Washington County Community Foundation where the memorials will be given in his name to the Hanover Community Foundation. A memorial has also been established with Zion Lutheran Church.
