Jean Marie Loob, 65, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at Community Memorial Healthcare, Marysville. A memorial Mass was at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Axtell. The Rev. James Shaughnessy officiated. Jean Loob was born Feb. 16, 1943, at Axtell, the daughter of Vincent “Bing” and Irene Bowhay Loob. At age 10, she suffered third-degree burns in a home fire. Her recovery required difficult procedures and a new medicine, which saved her life, but caused lingering damage to her body. She graduated from Beattie High School in 1962. She worked in Salina and Manhattan. She moved back to the area. She worked on Twin Valley Developmental projects for 25 years. She participated in Special Olympics. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church. She enjoyed story telling to daycare children, crafts, bingo, dominoes, spending holidays watching her great nieces and nephews and gambling trips with her sister. She requested that her body be donated to the University of Kansas to continue research on conditions such as her own to find future cures. Survivors include her brothers, Pat Loob, Lancaster, Texas, and Don Loob, Basin, Wyo.; and her sisters, Janice Clark, Columbus, Ohio, Nancy Padgett, Marysville, and Dianne Lee, Nebraska.
