Vicki L. Pillard, 60, of Marysville, KS, died Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Monday, 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary. A rosary service was held at 7 p.m., Monday, October 14, at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. Sister Eulalia Kloeker led the rosary. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 15, at St. Gregory’s. Father Pat Sullivan officiated. The pallbearers were Jerry Pillard, Jim Pillard, John Pillard, Michael Marish, Randy Campbell and Todd Cunningham. The honorary pallbearers were Georgia Marish, Jennifer Austin, Deb Brucker, Dora Gross, Lucy West, Renee Hoffman, Deb Barrington, Jane Zacharias and Sister Eulalia Kloeker. Burial was in St. Gregory’s Catholic Cemetery. Vicki was born December 21, 1952 at Ellsworth, KS, daughter of L.P. and Opal (Bulter) Weaver. On November 24, 1979, she married Gary Pillard at Holyrood, KS. In 1970, she graduated from Holyrood High School and then attended Emporia State Teachers College. She received a Bachelor Degree in English and Minor in German. Vicki taught English at Clay Center, KS, and then taught English and German at McPherson, KS. She moved to Marysville where she taught English and German. After attending summer school at Fort Hays State she received a Master’s Degree in Library Science in 1990. She then became the Librarian at Marysville High School. Vicki also worked as a newspaper reporter for the Marysville Advocate. While at Marysville High School, Vicki served as a sponsor for Pep Club, Cheerleaders and the Senior Class. She was an Assistant Volleyball Coach at McPherson and Clay Center. Vicki was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church and the Kansas Association of School Librarians. Vicki had many enjoyments in her life that included reading, gardening, fishing, sporting events, playing tennis, Bingo, board games, card games and going to the casino. She also enjoyed traveling and camping with her family. Vicki loved to host family events including birthday parties, Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas, the annual “Pillard Fish Fry” and faculty parties. Vicki was preceded in death by her father, L.P. Weaver. Survivors include her husband, Gary; son, Brandon Pillard, Marysville; mother, Opal Weaver, Great Bend, KS; brother, Gene (Karen) Weaver, Wichita, KS; and sisters, JaNelda (Max) Manor, Wamego, KS, Oleta (Keith) Beckwith, Great Bend, KS, Donna Campbell, Larned, KS, and Carolyn (Terry) Holland, Baton Rouge, LA.
