Helen Kathryn Borchardt, age 90, of Marysville, KS, died May 27, 2008, at Wichita, KS. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2008, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church, in Marysville. Father Gary Pennings officiated. Dolores Bruna played the organ and Chelsea Coon was the vocalist. The music selection included "Be Not Afraid", "Amazing Grace", "On Eagles Wings", "Song of Farewell" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Daniel Schell, Brandon Schell, Jon Schell, Jack Haller, Jerry Wempe, and David Lord. Kevin Meyer was an honorary pallbearer. Burial was in the church cemetery. Helen was born on March 15, 1918, in Beattie, KS, the daughter of August Koch and Ellen (Cook) Koch. On December 26, 1936, she was married to John Schell in Marysville, KS. They were blessed with two children, Dennis and Deanna. After John's death, Helen was remarried to Robert Borchardt, on May 20, 1950, in Marysville. During World War II, she worked for Boeing. After the war she worked for Western Auto, Sears, and Langdon, all in Wichita. She was also active in Women of the Moose and Daughters of Isabella. She liked to entertain friends and family and cook. She also loved dancing and going to garage sales. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Jon Schell; second husband, Robert Borchardt; two brothers, Ralph and Clarence Koch; and nine sisters, Rachael Hahn, Agatha Meyburn, Evangeline Kral, Jennie Tarvin, Augusta Koch, Rita Wood, Margaurite Bulleigh, Viola Daughtry, and Bernice Rockwell. She is survived by her son, Dennis Schell, of Marysville; daughter, Deanna Meyer, of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established to the family of Helen Borchardt and contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
