Dorothea "Pat" Wassenberg, 92, of Minneapolis, MN, formerly of Marysville, KS, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Frankfort Community Care Home in Frankfort, KS. A rosary service was held at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 5, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 6, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. Burial was in St. Gregory's Cemetery. Pat was born on September 21, 1921, at Marysville, KS, daughter of Ben and Mary (Voet) Wassenberg. She attended St. Gregory’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Marysville High School in 1939. She then attended K-State. She worked for a lawyer in Topeka. After a couple years the law practice moved to Minneapolis where she joined the practice. She worked as a paralegal for Moss Barnett Law Firm until she was 70. Pat loved sports and faithfully watched the Minnesota Twins, followed the Minnesota Gophers and all of Kansas State sports. She enjoyed golfing and bowled until last year carrying a 140 average at age 91. Pat was very active at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Minneapolis and volunteered at the gift shop for the Minnesota Orchestra. In her later years she didn’t do much traveling but before that traveled to visit relatives in FL, CA, NM, KY, and some overseas traveling. She loved to crochet, knit and crossword puzzles. Her family will remember the birthday, anniversary and Christmas cards that she sent. Pat would never miss any family birthdays and would send a note on her manual typewriter with a card. Her family meant everything to her and she was proud of them. She believed in staying active and had her routine of exercises. She was known for her fruit cakes that she would start making in November. Up until the last few years she loved to do Christmas baking. She was also a movie goer and loved to see the latest movie out. She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Bernard Wassenberg, Elizabeth Wassenberg, Rosemary Brungardt, Louis Wassenberg and infant brother, Joseph Wassenberg. Survivors include her siblings, Maurice “Fearless” Wassenberg, Rita Van Gaasbeek, Wilfrid “Pete” Wassenberg and Eugene “Gene” Wassenberg.
