Edwin C. Germeroth, 87, died Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Cambridge Place, Marysville, KS. Visitation was Friday, November 8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the Hanover Mortuary. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 9, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hanover. Pastor Donna Florio officiated. Mae Nieman played the organ while David Heuer sang “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagles Wings”. The pallbearers were Peter Kruse, Max Mizer, Alvin Berndt, Phil Berndt, Leland Moore and Nicholas Groves. Burial was in the Hanover Cemetery. Edwin was born August 25, 1926, at Hoxie, KS, to Adam and Louise (Theye) Germeroth. He worked as a lineman for Kansas Power and Light for 41 years, retiring in 1988. Edwin enjoyed woodworking, gardening, flowers, and square dancing. He served as the treasurer of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, was the Mayor of Hanover in the 1970’s, served on the Kloppenberg Senior Center Board, served on the church council and was a member of the volunteer fire department. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Clarence, Emil, Arthur, Raymond, Arnold; and sisters, Mabel Berndt and Lilian Germeroth. Survivors include his wife, Myrtle; son, Dale (Connie) Germeroth, Moundridge, KS; daughters, Darla Germeroth and Joe Rettura, Scranton, PA, Sheila Welp, Overland Park, KS; sisters, Myrtle Kropp, Colby, KS, Alice Mizer, Jennings, KS; three grandchildren, Steve (Sheryl) Germeroth, Newton, KS, Jill (Jeff) Duft, Kansas City, KS, and Ryan Welp, Overland Park, KS; four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association. Contributions may be sent in care of Hanover Mortuary.
