Helen Clarice (Schultz) Smith, 94, of Marysville, KS, died Friday, November 8, 2013 at Cambridge Place in Marysville. Visitation was Monday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, November 12, at the First Baptist Church in Marysville. Rev. Andrew Lucas officiated. Marge Volesky played the organ while Wayne Kruse sang “Because He Lives” and “He”. The pallbearers were Chuck Coleman, Doug Coleman II, LeRoy Neal, Tom Jungck, Andy Neal, Jeff Noland and Roger Neal. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Helen was born on May 24, 1919 in rural Marshall County to Charles and Sophia (Sedlacek) Schultz. In 1937, she graduated from Marysville High School. During the war years she worked at War Price and Rationing office and then worked at the Marshall County Courthouse in the Clerk's and Veterans Affairs Offices. In 1955, Helen went to work for the Marshall County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service office. She retired in 1975. In 1943, Helen became a member of the Marysville 1st Baptist Church and served as the church organist and church treasurer for 30 years. Helen loved all animals and was a loyal supporter of Animal Rights Organizations. On May 10, 1942, she was united in marriage to George William Smith. He preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded by her parents; sisters, Mabel Neal, Iva Volesky Downie; brothers, Everett and Chester Schultz; nieces, Carol Parks and Bonnie Cunningham; and nephews, Gene and Allen Neal. Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Beverly Coleman, Belleville, KS, Audrey Ronkar, Lincoln, NE and James Neal, Linnues, MO; many great nieces and nephews; and special friend, Darlene Haner.
