Ferdinand "Buster" F. Vering, 82, of Marysville, KS, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at Marysville. Ferd was born April 17, 1931, at Marysville, son of Antone and Mary (Wassenberg) Vering. As a young boy, Ferd was highly involved in helping his mother and siblings with the farm work and established himself with a hard work ethic that would carry through his lifetime. In 1948, he graduated from Marysville High School and continued the family farming with his brother. On August 9, 1969, he married Carol Kay Winterscheidt at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church in Marysville. They raised two sons and one daughter. In 1975, Ferd and Carol moved east of Marysville and operated their farm and ranch business. A kids 4H project of growing pumpkins grew into a successful business that served the surrounding area with pumpkins and watermelons for almost 30 years. His favorite part of the business was visiting with customers. In his later years, during the winter months, Ferd and Carol wintered in Laughlin, NV. He was a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and Building Committee, St. Gregory’s Cemetery Board. Survivors include his wife, Carol; two sons, Andy (Audrey) Vering and Phil Vering, all of Manhattan, KS; daughter, Ann Vering, Beverly Hills, CA; granddaughter, Katlyn Vering; three sisters, Loretta (Roy) Smith, Mt. Airy, NC; Kathleen (Edward) Colross, York, PA, and Cynthia (John) Schuppert, Lancaster, PA; brother, Francis (Connie) Vering, Marysville; three sisters-in-law, Mary Candice (Rob) Hughes, Tucson, AZ; Cheryl Grove, Overland Park, KS; Christine (Mike) Ryan, Signal Mountain, TN; brother-in-law, Mike (Vicky) Winterscheidt, Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents. A prayer service was at 7 p.m., Tuesday evening, at St. Gregory's Catholic Church in Marysville. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, December 11, at St. Gregory's. Father Jim Shaughnessy officiated. Bob Welch played the organ while the church choir sang “Here I Am Lord”, “Amazing Grace”, “Precious Lord Take My Hand”, “You Are Mine” and “How Great Thou Art.” The pallbearers were Alan Vering, Steve Vering, Pete Winterscheidt, Hank Winterscheidt, Steve Moser and Kyle Behrens. Burial was in St. Gregory's Catholic Cemetery. A memorial fund has been designated to the St Gregory’s Catholic School. Contributions may be sent in care of Kinsley Mortuary.
