Dorothy L. Hazen, 98, of Frankfort, KS, died Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Rev. Norma Jeane Miller officiated. Jane Sedlacek played the organ and sang “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagles Wings”. The congregation sang “How Great Thou Art”. The pallbearers were Greg Visser, Greg Hazen, Bryce Moyer, Brian Swain, Shawn Cregan and Aric Vaughn. Burial was in the Frankfort City Cemetery. Dorothy was born on September 30, 1915 at Olsburg, KS, to Charles and Lula Jackson Williams. She attended Adams Peek rural school and Olsburg High School. Dorothy taught in rural schools in Pottawatomie and Marshall Counties. On February 21, 1941, she married Sterling Wyatt Hazen. During World War II she worked in Santa Fe Railway offices in Topeka. She later worked as a bookkeeper at Esslinger Implement in Frankfort. She was a member of Frankfort United Methodist Church, P.E.O. Sisterhood, Progressive Homemakers, United Methodist Woman and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Sterling Wyatt Hazen, who died in 1992. Survivors include her son, Gwynn (Marilyn) Hazen, Frankfort; daughter, Marilyn Bush, Hiawatha, KS; grandchildren, Deann Hazen, Greg Hazen, Bryce Moyer and Brooke Cregan; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Frankfort Community Care Home or United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel.
