Eldon M. Ewing

Eldon M. Ewing, 101, Frankfort, KS, died January 6, 2014 at the Frankfort Community Care Home. Visitation was Sunday, January 12, from Noon until 8 p.m., at Padden Funeral Chapel. The family received friends from 7 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, January 13, at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. Rev. Norma Jean Miller officiated. The pallbearers were his grandsons and great grandsons, Scott Ewing, Paul Forst, Dusty Ewing, Chase Minihan, Kasey Minihan and Cameron Minihan. Burial was in the Frankfort City Cemetery. Eldon was born May 8, 1912, to Ira and Salome (Coxley) Ewing of Wells Township, Marshall County, KS. On February 27, 1936, Eldon married Virginia Anderson in Frankfort. To this union five children were born. Eldon and Virginia had been married 52 years when she died of cancer on October 28, 1988. On July 6, 1991, Eldon married Gretchen Gibson at the United Methodist Church in Frankfort. On February 28, 2012, they moved to the Frankfort Community Care Home. Eldon was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge in Frankfort. He served on the Reserville Grade School Board, Bigelow Township Board and Frankfort United Methodist Church Board. He was a well-known farmer in the Reserville community. He had a love of horses and trained horses up until he was 76 years old. Eldon always enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing Pitch, pitching horseshoes, hunting, and especially fishing. Eldon will always be remembered for his firm handshake and winning smile. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Frank, Ray, Forrest and Dean; sisters, Nellie Duncan, Mabel Fetterman and Mary Mleynek; and two infant siblings. Surviving him are his wife of twenty-two years, Gretchen Ewing; his children, Kay (Harold) Haskin, Frankfort, Ron (Stephanie) Ewing, Colorado Springs, CO, John (Marsha) Ewing, Young Harris, GA, Barbara (Ted) Forst, Frankfort, and Dave Ewing, Topeka; nine grandchildren, Cindy Haskin, Omaha, NE, Cathy (Kevin) Minihan, Blaine, Carey (Jeff) Erickson, Alexandria, VA, Scott (Barb) Ewing, Chanhassen, MN, Stacey (Tim) Murray, Gainesville, FL, Jay (Lorraine) Ewing, Jacksonville, FL, Paul (Leah) Forst, Frankfort, Dusty (Rachel) Ewing, Park City, and Amanda Ewing, Honolulu, HI; eleven great-grandchildren, Chase, Kasey and Cameron Minihan, Elizabeth and Samantha Erickson, Grace and Chris Ewing, Alexa and Eldon Ewing, Landry and Brody Ewing; many nieces and nephews. A memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church, Frankfort. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel, Frankfort.
