Alvin Christener, 91, of Frankfort, KS, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 at the Frankfort Community Care Home, Frankfort. Visitation was Friday, January 24, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Padden Funeral Chapel in Frankfort. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 25, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Rev. Donnie Hofman officiated. Carol Wright played the organ while the congregation sang “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Beautiful Savior.” The pallbearers were Larry Wessel, Don Roche, Rick Christener, Doug Plegge, Brian Smith and Warren Berg. The honorary pallbearers were Steve Harries, Kenneth Wanklyn, Rudolph Vopata, Ray Lierz, Henry Suther and Herschel Mentgen. Burial was in the Marysville City Cemetery. Alvin was born September 4, 1922, at Home, KS, son of Anton and Matilda (Spellmier) Christener. He attended Life Country School. On October 14, 1953, he married Edna Berg at Wheaton, KS. He farmed and raised cattle all his life on a farm west of Frankfort, until 1983 when they moved to Frankfort. He returned to the farm daily to farm with his son and later his grandson. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville. Survivors include his wife, Edna; son, Robert (Janet) Christener, all of Frankfort; and three grandchildren, Donnie Christener, Chicago, IL, Mike Christener and fiancé, Alissa, Frankfort, and Melissa Christener, Frankfort. He was preceded in death by his father, Anton, in 1974; mother, Matilda, in 1979; and brother, Walter, in 1946 from the German measles. A memorial fund is established in his name and will be designated later. Contributions may be sent in care of Padden Funeral Chapel Frankfort.
